children on a holiday in the communityIt can be very difficult to strike up a conversation with new people you’ve never met before, and making good friends in a new area can seem almost impossible. You may have moved to study, start a new job, or move in with a partner. Whatever your reasons for moving to a new place, it can be a struggle to find the right people and make new friendships.

However, it’s certainly not impossible to meet new people when you move to a new neighborhood, and there are various things you can do to increase your chances. Here are some tips you can consider if you’re looking to make new friends when you’re new to an area.

1. Find People Beforehand
Trying to find new people before you even move to the new neighborhood can be useful if you want to make fast progress as soon as you arrive. It can also help some people to feel more comfortable about the move. If you’re heading to a new master-planned community, such as North River Ranch, start with any one of the community representatives. Social media groups and other online networks can be a useful starting point for becoming better connected before you move from one place to another.

2. Join Community Initiatives
Getting involved with things that are happening in the community can be one of the best ways to meet new people. Try to find things that you enjoy, which will increase the chances of finding people who share interests in common. For example, if you like the outdoors, see whether there are any walking or running groups in the area. If you’re interested in social issues, there may be political or campaign groups you can get involved in within your new neighborhood.

3. Get Active
Being active in your new neighborhood can help you to meet new people more easily. Even if you don’t want to join an organized group in the neighborhood, you can meet more people simply by going outside or joining your local gym. Some people choose to get a dog so that they have a further reason to go outside every day and potentially meet new people in the community.

4. Put Yourself Out There
Nobody will know you’re new to the neighborhood and looking to make friends if you don’t put yourself out there a bit. You can do this either by introducing yourself when you get the opportunity in person or using the internet to find local groups where you can meet and connect with other people. With so many apps and social platforms available today, connecting online and meeting up later in person is one of the most popular ways that people meet.

5. Host a Housewarming Party
If you want to open up your home to your new neighbors and meet some new people, consider hosting a housewarming party once you’ve settled into your new place. This is a fantastic way to meet people in the neighborhood and build a strong connection from the start.

If it goes well, you could even consider hosting another party the following month to continue getting to know people in your neighborhood. Other people may even want to get involved as time goes by, and who knows, you may even start a new tradition!

6. Participate in a Community Planned Activity
It’s amazing how many different clubs, activities, events, social gatherings, sports events, kid’s programs, and adult mix ‘n’ mingles are arranged and hosted by a community’s lifestyle team. North River Ranch is no exception. In addition to the seasonal FunDays, the Director of Fun at North River Ranch is responsible for the monthly FunGuide calendar of events. Research those communities with planned programs and activities and RSVP for one or more. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your calendar will fill up.

Moving to the Right Neighborhood
There are many things to consider when you move to a new neighborhood. If you’re looking to make new friends and meet people often, consider moving somewhere like North River Ranch, where there are many activities and things to do within walking distance of your front door. Living in a neighborhood where there is a strong sense of community is often the perfect choice for people new to town and who want to make new friends.
